cookbook project II

Thai/Lao papaya salad is one of my favorite dishes. I like it extra spicy and with extra lime. For the recipe book, Lalit and I are using carrots instead of papaya. And it's just as good! Our recipe includes shredded carrots, cherry tomatoes, onion, chili peppers, cilantro, lime, garlic, fish sauce, sugar cane and tamarind sauce. We topped the salad with prawns and crushed peanuts. Take a look!

happy halloween

This Halloween I dressed up as my favorite...Sriracha Chili Sauce. Love that sauce on everything!  I hand-painted the label on a shirt and made the hat out of a foam cone/cylinder and green place mats. I won funniest costume and a fifty-dollar gift certificate to any Bartolotta restaurant. Score!

cookbook project

My friend Lalit and I have taken on the task of creating five asian-inspired recipes to put in a book. It's going to be a long process getting the recipes just right and figuring out the design. I'm very excited. Take a look at what we've come up with so far for our burger inspired by flavors of Japanese cuisine.

burger 1 – tuna miso burger with grilled eggplant, tofu, mushrooms, ginger and sriracha mayo sauce

burger 2 – tuna burger on a stick with mushrooms, eggplant, and tofu topped with soy/white wine vinegar sauce

burger 3 – tuna pattie w/ cilantro, onion, ginger and panko bread crumbs on an eggplant "bun"...topped with wasabi mayo

a house warming

As a kid, I constantly rearranged my room. Not much has changed. Having the right environment is really important to me, especially when I work (design, read, paint, etc.)  So I'm mapping out each room in my new apartment. This is a mood board for what I'm trying to do. Because I don't have a lot of furniture (I'm missing a dining table, coffee table, chairs, etc), I'm hitting up all of Milwaukee's antique stores to find a few vintage pieces. I love metal and wood mixes—it adds a lot of character and warmth, especially since I'm not allowed to paint the white walls.
